Moments of Learning & Unlearning — Catapulting Into A Powerful Movement

Outside of COVID-19 in the year of 2020, there is also a powerful movement in standing with Black Lives.

2020 is also a year that reignites hope among younger generations in the United States, as we see people of all races, backgrounds, and ages standing together to use their voices for Black Lives.

Multiple movements have arisen to wake up the system in America that has been broken since the beginning. A system that was never built to serve with equality.

Movements like Police Abolition, Defunding Police, Prison Abolition. . .

Although these movements bring disagreements among peers, I think it serves as an important symbol of hope. Change is coming, and we are making it happen.

I took Honors 211A on Prisons, Debt, & the Logic of Bordered Spaces in Winter Quarter 2020, before a resurge of the Black Lives Matter Movement. Although I still have much to learn on amplifying Black Voices, taking this class was a great beginning to exposing me to thinking about how I know the things I know.

Attached below is a compilation of slides that I created after reading Angela Davis' "Are Prisons Obsolete?", which was a book we read in Honors 211A.

Navigate to the "Honors Classes" tab to see more about how Honors 211A has impacted my role as a student, citizen, and ally.
