At first, I thought you were merely an added length to my spring break during the end of Winter Quarter.
Soon, death after death invaded the news, not only in Seattle, but across the world.
2020, you introduced us to a new normal: COVID-19.
Don't be quick to assume that our new normal is what "normal" usually means.
Our new normal has a new definition:
Death, after death, after death, after death. These are not numbers, they are lives. With each death comes a story, family, countless struggles, and countless memories.
Our new normal has brought economic uncertainty... pushing millions out of their homes, out of food, out of safety...
Our new normal has brought political unrest... chanting Black Lives Matter and pointing out the racial injustices that were puncturing our already broken system.
Our new normal... more deaths... caused by climate change and wildfires. Blazing force of heat rummaging through nature, animals, and their homes.
Our new normal is NOT normal.
But we must fight, persevere, and come out even stronger on the other side—centering every single story around our system.
