This quarter was my second quarter taking Departmental Honors, and this was the quarter we were partnering with Neighborhood House for our project.
My group and I created a public health campaign on Tik Tok spreading awareness of youth substance use, utilizing the social norms approach to promote positive behavior.
I particularly enjoyed this class in conjunction with capstone because it meant that my quarter was very service-learning oriented and public health application oriented.
Some skills that I learned in public health were to collaborate with the organization partner, delegate tasks among group members using a GANTT chart, and manage our projects efficiently.
I really appreciated this class because Keshet made it a point to check in with all of us each week with an ice breaker. Since this class was smaller, we really got to hear about our peers, and normalize mental health check-ins. This quarter I realized I really tried being more aware of my emotions as well as normalize not being okay, and I am proud of myself for embracing all my feelings and saying them out loud.
I also found myself more comfortable at speaking up and raising my hand in this class, expressing my public health ideas, and sharing them with my peers without thinking too much—letting go of perfection!
