This was my first coding class, and I have to say I have a love and hate relationship with it.
I love the thrill of having code run. I love the thrill of seeing the association pop up when running the regression. I love having the data confirm what we already know—that politics drive health. Social determinants drive health. Racism impacts health.
This class was a very small one, so it was almost like I had one-on-one tutoring with the TA and professor. I felt more comfortable with raising my hand and asking questions. This makes me think, maybe I would have been better off at a smaller school when it comes to me expressing myself?
Either way, I am proud of myself for gaining more confidence to speak up. I took this class because I wanted to learn more about epidemiology, and its relationship to coding.
I learned how to code in Stata, which I feel pretty familiar with the interface now. Now that I have one language on my hands, I also feel more comfortable with learning new languages because I know that it is possible for me.
One thing I learned about myself is that I can do anything I set my mind to, if I keep my goals and values in mind. What is my end goal? But I have also realized that I need to celebrate each win, celebrating myself for meeting each goal.
