Oh boy, this was a tough class to get through. I do not consider myself a political scientist at all, and I would say I really need to work on keeping up with both national and international news. This class really forced me into discomfort, and I truly believe that it has made me more interested in political science.
In the beginning, I was angry that I was forced to take a political science class for my major; but I see how it intersects with my major now. From human rights, to international systems setting standards (especially for the pandemic and vaccination), and how wealth and power are related.
The most important things that are drilled into my mind are the ideologies of being a Realist, Liberal, or Marxist in international politics. I honestly do not know which I identify with, but I think I am leaning towards realist as I see how everything is power driven. I see the power of states heavily driven by the power that countries want to maintain or gain, no matter if it comes at the cost of human rights.
Now that I have taken my final exam, I feel a giant weight lifted off me, but I am also grateful that a lot of these topics have been drilled into my mind and moving forward I have particular interests in:
climate change in international politics and how rich countries should be held accountable for making poor countries suffer the worse of climate change
human rights in the context of vaccination and freedom from poverty and preventable disease
Thank you to the New York Times app for saving my quarter. And now, I get notifications from NYT that will keep me updated about what's going on in the world!
