HSERV 490: Homeless in Seattle

Microsoft. Expedia. Starbucks. Boeing. Amazon. The largest, most wealthiest companies reside in Seattle and contribute to the overall wealth of the Emerald City. However, underneath all this wealth masks the great inequities within the people.


Why is this? Why is it that so many are on the streets?


The answer? Lack of affordable housing.


Additionally, people hide. People hide from the public eye, so there's even more folks experiencing homelessness than we see. And who hides? Women, mothers, people with children, families...


I am so glad I took this class. I had not really known much about homelessness before this class, all I knew was that: It's a problem, and I didn't know what I could do about it. This class gave me agency.


Attached is a Women in Black Vigil that gathers people every month/week to stand for the people in Seattle that have lost their lives on the streets.
