Today is December 16, 2021, and I am about to take my final for this class. Quick words to myself: I AM TOTALLY READY TO ROCK THIS FINAL!!!
I really really really really reallyyyyyy enjoyed this class. I really loved the aspects that combined prevention, math (simple, of course), and analytical methods that kind exercised my creative AND strategic brain.
PREVENTION:
I really loved the emphasis of preventing not only diseases, but also negative health outcomes such as behaviors, lifestyles, identities...and this leads to the social determinants of health.
There was a lecture given by one of the TAs, Jessie Seiler, and she talked about the Social Determinants of Health—and I have to say this was my favorite lecture. I think this lecture gave me more realization on what I am passionate about—the Social Determinants of Health.
Why do people of different races experience different health outcomes?
How do different neighborhoods give rise to different exposures to pollution, and as a result, negative health outcomes?
How can we be more inclusive in times like the pandemic when we think about the social determinants of health?
How can the healthcare system change so that it addresses the down and upstream effects of the Social Determinants of Health?
How deep into the system do we go to address these determinants?
Just some of my thoughts that I am really curious about, excited about, and angered about.
