During Spring Quarter 2020, I took a class called Ways of Meaning taught by Professor Dziwirek, an Interdisciplinary class in the Honors Department.
I took this class during COVID-19, so although all my interactions were online, the people in this class exposed me to different ways of understanding out interactions in society.
In this class, we talked about the relationships between Thought, Culture, and Language and how interpersonal relationships vary across cultures—all deriving unique perspectives within a certain culture, and revealing what humanity values on a broader scope.
For my Final Term Paper, I was really interested in how Politeness differs between American culture, and Thai culture, as my father was born and raised in Thailand.
Attached in this post is a pdf of my paper, as well as the presentation I made for the class regarding my findings.
